INSIGHTS

The national leadership score remained bleak at 63/100 in Oct-Dec 2023, as economic pressures (cost of living, housing affordability, rental availability), data security, and natural disasters became key leadership topics.

  • Competence (67/100) and integrity (63/100) remained unchanged, while contribution declined to 64/100 (-1), driven by lower perceptions of health & wellbeing, cultural inclusion, and tech innovation.
  • The public sector performed strongest at 73, up from the previous quarter (+2). The not-for-profit sector declined to 65 (-1), while the private (61) and government (57) sectors remained unchanged.
  • The federal government returned to baseline this quarter at 58 (+4) after taking a hit in the Jul-Sep 2023 following The Voice to Parliament referendum. Notably, supermarkets and grocery companies declined strongly to 64 (-4) after announcing record profits during the cost-of-living crisis.
